Retraining

At The Racehorse Sanctuary & Rehoming Centre, every new arrival is treated as an individual. They all have different temperaments and abilities. Some adapt to their new life with ease, while others will take more time. Retraining needs to be taken one step at a time. Basically, we are wiping the slate clean and starting again.

The team will gradually assess their suitability for a new career. Because of their age or previous injury, some may not be suitable for ridden work and will remain at the Centre or be rehomed as a companion.

Horses that can be ridden will be brought along quietly, which includes long reining around the farm, helping them to gain more confidence to move forward on their own, a sharp contrast to their past racing career.
